Narmada River

  • Narmada River is a holy river of Central India. Origin of Narmada River is in Amarkantak hill station in Madhya Pradesh, India. 
  • Narmada River travels from Central India to Western India, passing through Madhya Pradesh State and Gujarat State. 
  • River is considered lifeline of these two states Madhya Pradesh and Gujrat. Narmada fulfills all the need of water in Madhya Pradesh. 
  • As Narmada River is a holy river and considered lifeline, so number of ghats (river-banks) are found in all the cities from where it passes through. 
  • In Jabalpur city one can find number of Narmada river ghats like Jelehri-ghat, Gwari-ghat, Tilwaraghat, Lamhetaghat, Bhedaghat or Bheraghat etc., visited by thousands of people every day. 
  • For praising the Narmada River, state government is encouraging local people to celebrate Narmada Mahotsava in Bhedaghat tourist site.
