About 40 km from Jabalpur, Bargi Dam holds back the Narmada into a wide reservoir that the state tourism department has developed for water sports.

Bargi Dam is built on the Narmada about 40 km from Jabalpur, and from a visitor's point of view it functions as the city's water recreation destination rather than as an engineering sight. The reservoir behind the dam is wide and open, and the draw is getting onto it: cruise rides, motor boat rides and speed boat rides all operate here.
The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department runs its own resort at Bargi Dam and promotes the site as an important part of Jabalpur sightseeing and as an excursion from the city. That makes it one of the few places on the Jabalpur circuit where you can comfortably stay the night rather than returning the same day, which in turn makes a sunset or early morning on the water possible.
The slowest and most comfortable way onto the reservoir, taking you out across open water with the dam and the shoreline in view. It suits families and anyone who wants time rather than speed.
Shorter, faster rides for those who want them. These are the main water sports offered at the site alongside the cruise.
The spread of water behind the dam on the Narmada is the setting for everything else. Early morning and late evening are when it is calmest and best for photographs.
Bargi is a half day from Jabalpur, or an overnight if you want the reservoir at both ends of the day.
October to March is the best stretch, with pleasant weather and settled water for boating. The monsoon fills the reservoir but can interrupt boat operations and makes the open water uncomfortable. April to June is workable if you keep to early morning and evening rides and avoid the middle of the day.
