🔍Bandhavgarh Fort Overview Bandhavgarh Fort, believed to be around 2,000 years old, is located atop the Bandhavgarh Hill, in the centre of the national park. Books like ‘Narad-Panch Ratra’ and the ‘Shiva Purana’ contain references to this fort. Surrounded by a large number of smaller hills separated by gently sloping valleys, the fort is home to many endangered species of vultures. The fort was the seat of rulers of Rewa State, until they shifted to Rewa town in 1617 AD.
🔍The Baghel Museum in Bandhavgarh Museum stands as a testimony to the illustrious history of the place. This museum preserves and displays the assets of the Maharaja of Rewa. The Baghel Museum in rewa are being kept intact for display. This museum also showcases the stuffed body of the first white tiger, called Mohan which was spotted by the Maharaja of Rewa. The museum showcases ancient equipment used for hunting by the Maharaja.
🔍Bandhavgarh Hill is the highest hill in the reserve of Bandhavgarh lying in an altitude of 807 m above the sea level. This range of hills is formed from sandstone and water that permeates into it. As a result of this unique formation, there are many springs and streams that originate from this hill. The Son River and the Johilla Riverpass are by the east side of the hill and River Umrar flows on the west side.
🔍Bandhavgarh National Park, the most popular national parks in India is located in the Vindhya Hills of the Umaria district in Madhya Pradesh. Declared as a national park in 1968 the Bandhavgarh National Park is spread across the area of 105 km². The name Bandhavgarh has been derived from the most prominent hillock of the area of Umaria.
🔍The Bandhavgarh Ancient Caves are built on the sand-stone hillocks of the Bandhavgarh Hills. There are around 39 caves in the region, which cover a length of about 5 km. You can notice several caves that carry inscriptions of the Brahmi script and some of these caves also have embossed figures of tiger, pig, elephant and horsemen. The Badi Gufa literally means ‘Biggest Cave’. This is one of the oldest caves and is dated back to the 10th century.
🔍It is one of the most amazing places in Bandhavgarh National Park that symbolizes nature’s beauty. From the Climbers Point, one can get an aerial view of the entire park as this place is situated at 13,005 ft above the sea level. This location brings an aerial view of the entire park and the forest in this location is filled with Sal and Bamboo trees.
🔍The Panpatha Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve spread across the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh literally means “Fort of Brother”. The Panpatha Wildlife Sanctuary was formed in the year 1983. It consists of an area of 245 sq. km. The Sanctuary accommodates various speices of animals like the Tiger Panthers Jackal Wild dog Chital Sambhar Blue bull Porcupine Chausingha Bear etc.
🔍Shesh Shaiya is a 65 ft tall statue of Lord Vishnu. It is from this point that the Charanganga River origins. Shesh Shaiya is located on the Bandhavgarh hill and is the only place within the Bandhavgarh National Park where you go are required to go on foot. As the name suggests, the Lord Vishnu is in a sleeping posture on the seven hooded serpent, Shesh Naag. The design of the statue is very ancient.
