A temple in Majholi village where a huge Varaha stands behind a life sized image of Vishnu seated in Yogasana.
Sri Vishnu Varaha Mandir is a revered Hindu temple in the village of Majholi in Jabalpur district. The shrine holds an elephantine Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu, standing behind a life sized idol of Vishnu seated in Yogasana. The temple also enshrines idols of Ganesha, Kali and Hanuman among others, and pilgrims visit it through the year.
The arrangement is the distinctive thing here: a very large Varaha set behind a life sized Vishnu in Yogasana, so the two images read together rather than as separate shrines.
Ganesha, Kali and Hanuman are among the other deities enshrined in the temple, which keeps it in regular use by local worshippers as well as visiting pilgrims.
Majholi is a village in the district, so this is a planned drive rather than a city stop.
Pilgrims visit through the year, so there is no closed season. The cooler months make the village drive more comfortable, and Vishnu festival dates will be busier than ordinary days.
