A waterfall and pool on Kaimur hill, 10 km from Sasaram in Bihar, busiest through the monsoon and at its post Raksha Bandhan fair.

Manjhar Kund waterfall is situated on Kaimur hill, 10 km from Sasaram in Bihar. In Sawan, through the rainy season, local visitors come out here to picnic, and the water of the kund has a local reputation for helping digestion. Manjhar Kund and Dhuan Kund are points on the Kao river, which in Bhojpur district is known as the Thora river.
The site also has a fair, held on the first Sunday after the Raksha Bandhan festival. Besides local people a large number of visitors come for it. There was earlier a tradition of carrying the Guru Granth Sahib here, and people of the Sikh community used to stay at Manjhar Kund for three days.
The fall and the kund below it are the whole point of the trip, and they are at their fullest in the rains. Picnic groups spread out around the water through Sawan, so the atmosphere is sociable rather than solitary.
The fair falls on the first Sunday after Raksha Bandhan and pulls a large crowd from well beyond the immediate area. If you want the site at its liveliest, this is the day; if you want it quiet, avoid it.
Manjhar Kund and Dhuan Kund are both points on the Kao river, known as the Thora river in Bhojpur district. Visitors often take in the two kunds together rather than treating either as a single stop.
Rock around a waterfall is slippery when the water is high, which is exactly when most people come, so plan for the conditions.
Sawan, the rainy season, is when local visitors come and when the fall is worth seeing. The single busiest day is the first Sunday after Raksha Bandhan, when the fair is held. Outside the rains the water level is the main uncertainty, so check locally before making the trip.
