🔍India’s holiest west-flowing river is born in the Narmada kund at the centre of town. Worshipped as a goddess, she travels over 1,300 km to the Arabian Sea, and devotees still walk her full parikrama on foot.
🔍The Narmada’s "brother" rises at Sonmuda on the eastern edge of the plateau and sets off the opposite way, eastward to meet the Ganga. The origin point doubles as Amarkantak’s favourite sunrise viewpoint.
🔍The third river of the plateau rises near the Jwaleshwar temple and joins the Son downstream. Folk songs of the region remember Johila in the tales of Narmada’s youth.
