A seventy six foot Shiva statue in Kachnar City, Jabalpur, with a cavern below holding Shivalingam models from across the country.
Kachnar City is a newly developed locality of Jabalpur, and the Lord Shiva statue there is one of its more recent attractions. The statue stands seventy six feet high and was built in 2006. Below it, the temple has a cavern holding Shivalingam models from different parts of the country, and the site also has a statue of Nandi, the bull that is Shiva's vaahan, along with idols of the Saptarishi and Lord Ganesha. The temple draws large crowds.
The seventy six foot figure of Shiva is the reason most people come, and it is visible from well within the locality.
A cavern in the temple holds Shivalingam models gathered from different parts of India, which makes it the most interesting part of the complex to walk through slowly.
This is a busy city temple in a residential locality, so plan around the crowds rather than around travel time.
The site is open and the statue is best seen in good light, so mornings and evenings work better than the middle of the day. Shivratri and other Shiva festival days will be extremely busy, so plan accordingly.
