About Chanderi

Where Bundela history meets a 700-year-old loom

Chanderi, in Ashoknagar district, is a small town with an outsized place in Indian history. It was the capital of medieval kings and a key Bundela citadel.

Today Chanderi is famous for the gossamer-fine Chanderi sarees woven on traditional pit looms by some 3,500 weaver families — a GI-tagged craft.
