A Scindia summer capital wrapped in forest and lake
Shivpuri lies in northern Madhya Pradesh, surrounded by the dense forests of the Madhav range — once the royal hunting reserve of the Scindia kings of Gwalior. Today the Madhav National Park covers 354 sq km of dry-deciduous forest, lakes and historic monuments.
Inside the park, the Madhav Vilas Palace and three exquisite Scindia chhatris rise above the Chandpatha lake — built by Scindia rulers in pure white marble and sandstone.
